It Finally Happened...

First let me start with, I had a serious panic attack today. I am not being dramatic, it's not funny...but thank God it all ended well. Let me also say, that I know this happens every day, probably more than once a day in many homes, and no one gets injured. But I am a worry wart.

So Kaleb was being a real toddler today. He was great this morning (when Roland was home), and took a great nap. But when he woke up, and realized Roland wasn't here anymore, all h-e-double hockey sticks broke lose. One thing he has been doing lately that really bothers me is playing with the standing fan in the living room. If it's off, he turns it on. If it's on, he turns it off. He sticks his fingers in it when it's running. So it starts doing this, after everything else he had been doing prior too, and I decided a time-out was needed. Kaleb's time-outs consist of about two to five minutes in his crib. So, I go put him in his crib, close the door, walk back into the living room, and hear a weird noise. I go back into the room, and he is standing at the door!! What he hell?! He hasn't ever done this before, and he didn't seem hurt. He was crying, but he was crying when he went on time-out. No broken bones, or bumps or bruises. Like I said, I know this happens all the time. But it's a good three and a half feet to the floor. Thank God it's carpet! And of course Roland isn't home so I am going through this alone.

So I just put him down for bed, and I planned on getting my shower done first thing and then cleaning the kitchen and making myself something to eat...well some nights Kaleb can take up to an hour to go to sleep. He just plays in his crib. So were on about 15 minutes now. I just want to take a freaking shower without thinking my child is going to be doing acrobatics the whole time! He doesn't seem annoyed that he is in bed..and I am pretty sure he hasn't ever done this before. But shooooot...I'm sure once he realized it was an escape route, it stayed in that little sponge of a mind of his! I am just sitting here, monitor turned full blast, wondering if I should just go take a damn shower. I hope that was just a one time thing. I am pretty sure one of those net things would totally freak him out, so the only other thing we could do, if this became regular, would be to get him into a toddler bed. Which I really don't think he is ready for. Oh, parental decisions!

Since I am on, I will take some time to praise my little acrobat spider-monkey! Kaleb has been burping (loud) a lot lately. I guess he is eating good! So we figured, why not try to start on manners. This started about a week ago and what we do was have him say excuse me (which comes out "scuse") after his burp. I am proud to say that now, after only a week, after burps (and flatulants!) I say, "Kaleb, what do you say?" and he says "scuse". I am so proud of my little man. Those are the things I have to remember when he is being a maniac.

We also had a lot of fun playing in his room today for about an hour while he was being a normal child. He has a play room, so in his bedroom we don't have any toys. But he loves to go through the baskets on his changing table. He takes out all of his lotions and wipees and shoes and socks and goes to town. We opened the blinds today and just sat in there having a little snack and talking to each other. Here's a great picture I took of him in there...loving on his puppy.

Well, he has quieted down some, and I think I have about a ninety percent chance of getting a shower in without anything happening. You know I will have that monitor right next to me, turned all the way up!
