It has been SO busy in the Muniz household! With cake making (and prep for my final class) and a birthday party, and a crazy climbing toddler, we have been hanging on for the ride this past week!
I had my final Course 1 class last night. I had frosted my cake on Tuesday night, and hated how it came out. I also used a chocolate cake for the first time, and it was Betty Crocker when I wanted Duncan Hines, and it lifted pretty bad when I frosted it, so my white frosting had chocolate "sprinkles". Then I had issues with the roses. I guess we are our worst critic, but I hated my final cake. The teacher said it looked great though, so I guess I will just have to be happy with that. I even got a Certificate for passing the course. Roland was pretty proud of me and told me I needed to do the second course. I think I am going to lay off for August, because I want to get all the skills that I have learned so far mastered. But Liz and I are talking about going back in September. Here is a picture of my cake and my Certificate.
We went to Maddy's second birthday party this past Sunday. It was a lot of fun, but boy is it hard to go to a birthday party without Roland! Kaleb was all over the place! But I was glad he was so comfortable, and he obviously had a blast! We did have to leave early because it ran right into naptime and Kaleb got a little cranky.
Well, yesterday. Oh. My. Gosh.
So, obviously Kaleb is a toddler, and that includes lots of climbing here lately. He can't get up on our couches just yet (only at my mom's house) but he does climb on the coffee table. The coffee table has been driving me crazy since Kaleb was mobile. Then, I put the edge thing on it, and it pulled off the finish on my table and they don't stay on! So, yesterday Kaleb goes to climb on the table and I go running over like I always do...well there he went, right off of it. He landed on his head (OMG!!) and kind of went to the side and immediately grabbed his neck. Of course, I am thinking he has broken his neck and we are going to the ER and all that nonsense that always goes through my mind! Well, his neck was fine, but he must have scratched himself on the way down. He has a scratch over his chest (because he was in just a diaper) and it looks like he had open heart surgery! I freaked out, and of course, it was 5 minutes before I had to leave for my class! I left and was ready to cry, but Roland said he just curled up on his chest and they watched Spongebob for about 10 minutes and then he was fine. But, wow, that scared me! Good thing I was already planning on getting a new coffee table pretty soon because of the headache that one has been. I am thinking a leather ottoman. No freaking corners or wood!
Kaleb is 16 months old today! I can't believe what a big boy we have now! I was looking at a friend's picture of him at the birthday party, and I had no clue how big my son is! That happens every couple of months. I guess because I am with him every day, he doesn't seem that big to me. But then I will see a picture of him somewhere, and there's my toddler! But at least he is growing great (he is already half of me in inches!) and seems to be developing great.
Tomorrow we are going over to Roland's mom's house to eat dinner and visit and hopefully it will be a quiet weekend. I am sure my family will come over on Sunday, and I think Roland has some double shifts planned. Hopefully it won't be too hot because I am very much over this heat!
